Writers and Directors Worldwide today officially launched a campaign which aims to bring about a simple change in the law for screenwriters and directors to ensure fair pay and restore equality.
In the majority of countries, screenwriters and directors in the audiovisual sector do not have a right to receive fair remuneration for the reuse or rebroadcast of their work. While the various operators, broadcasters and distributors get fairly remunerated, the creator at the very heart of the project rarely receives the same treatment. The aim of the Audiovisual Campaign is to help correct this imbalance.
By imposing an unassignable, unwaivable right to remuneration, we can bring their rights level with other players by guaranteeing them a fair share in the future success of their works.
Full details of the issues facing creators and the campaign’s objectives are detailed at a dedicated Audiovisual Campaign website.
